Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III for the Specialized Addiction Treatment Services program at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Clinician III position is to work as a member of the outpatient substance abuse treatment unit and provide counseling to individuals with substance use problems. The Clinician provides individual, group and family counseling and psychoeducation to promote recovery for the identified population and interfaces with community resources on their behalf.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Conducts biopsychosocial evaluations, including New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring System (NJ-SAMS), and makes related treatment recommendations.
Provides individual and group substance abuse counseling to individuals with substance abuse problems and co-occurring disorders of developmental disabilities and mental illness.
Assesses and refers individuals served to case manager for appropriate treatment and case management resources for clients and/or families as determined by initial and on-going assessment.
Maintains current knowledge of new and developing best practices for treating individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders including psychiatric disorders.
Coordinates care with other entities responsible for the well-being of the client, e.g., community case managers, parole, probation, etc.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field. Must be certified as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor or eligible for certification within two (2) years of hire.
Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record as the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position and to travel to different sites.
Knowledge of substance abuse counseling with a minimum of two (2) years direct experience.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
May need to work extended hours and a minimum of two (2) evenings a week.
