Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Mental Health Clinician III for the Specialized Addiction Treatment Services Program at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose of the Mental Health Clinician III position is to work as a member of the outpatient substance abuse treatment unit, providing counseling to individuals with substance use problems, and co-occurring disorders and/or mental illness. The Clinician provides individual, IOP group and family counseling and psychoeducation to promote recovery for the identified population and interfaces with community resources on their behalf.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides psychoeducation to individuals, groups and families about substance abuse and the recovery process.
Conducts biopsychosocial evaluations, including New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring System (NJ-SAMS), and makes related treatment recommendations.
Provides individual and group substance abuse counseling to individuals with substance abuse problems and co-occurring disorders of developmental disabilities and mental illness.
Engages clients in appropriate clinical treatment based on clinical assessment completed by the psychiatrist and the clinician.
Makes referrals and facilitates transfer to alternate levels of care, when indicated.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field.
Must be certified as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor or eligible for certification within two (2) years of hire.
Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record as the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position and to travel to different sites.
Knowledge of substance abuse counseling with a minimum of two (2) years direct experience.
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
May need to work extended hours and a minimum of three (3) evenings a week.
