The Pediatric Center was started in 1958 when Dr. Ervin was able to secure a grant from Maine Senator Edmund Muskie. Since that time we have provided comprehensive interdisciplinary assessments and therapeutic interventions for a range of childhood difficulties including speech, motor, emotional and behavioral. In addition to developmental assessments, we provide comprehensive assessments of the medical and behavioral needs of children entering temporary state protective custody. Situated in Augusta and Waterville near Maine’s State Capital, our physicians and psychologists are very involved in programs that help to develop medical and mental health policy. We have close working relationships with many academic institutions and teach undergraduate and graduate students from Colby College, the University of New England and University of Maine and host family medicine residents from the Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Institute. We have an annual summer Child Development and Behavior Conference held at Colby College.
